Fusion prostate biopsy

Multiparametric prostate MRI helps us know if there are especially suspicious areas of the prostate that should be investigated. Fusion biopsy is the use of these multiparametric MRI (MRI) images to indicate, at the time of the biopsy, exactly where the sample should be taken.

Until now we had the traditional biopsy, which consists of mapping or taking a random sample in different areas of the prostate. It is really a "blind" way of taking a sample, inside the prostate but without knowing if they are the most suspicious areas.

Advantages of fusion biopsy

  • It is a minimally invasive procedure that offers us a highly accurate anatomical map of the prostate with the areas affected by the tumor.
  • Reduces the number of "punctures" in many cases
  • It has a much higher detection rate
  • Reduces the need to perform second and third biopsies in patients with suspected prostate cancer.
  • It allows you to plan tumor treatment in a personalized way.
