Resonancia multiparámetrica

The best imaging technique to locate malignant lesions and the best technique so that the prostate biopsy is performed only towards the suspicious lesion.
No more numerous and random biopsies!

Advantages

Thanks to multiparametric nuclear resonance of the prostate, patients with prostate cancer can be studied with much greater precision, and it is even possible to predict whether the tumor is within or has already exceeded its limits.

Multiparametric MRI can select those cases in which biopsy can be avoided; and if this is necessary, only the suspicious area can be biopsied, avoiding so many punctures.

It is an incredible tool that is revolutionizing the diagnosis and changing therapeutic attitudes and monitoring of prostate cancer. What it means for the patient: less inconvenience.

When is this technique applied?

It has initially been indicated in most centers in patients who require a second or third biopsy. Thus we apply the maximum diagnostic capacity to direct the punctures only to suspicious areas.

However, there are recent studies that raise the following question: why reserve the MRI for so late? If we use it from the beginning we avoid ¼ of unnecessary biopsies, we increase the detection of clinically significant cancers and we reduce the diagnosis of clinically irrelevant ones (cancers that, although present, do not threaten the patient's life). Currently, clinical practice guidelines recommend MRI before considering a biopsy.
