Rezum technique for prostate obstruction

It is an innovative treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia that is very effective, minimally invasive and has a very quick recovery.

What does it consist of?

It consists of an injection of water vapor that is applied to the prostate, through a device connected to a camera that allows the steam to be visualized and injected transurethrally, that is, through the urethra (without incisions); allowing to solve the problems caused by the growth of the prostate. This procedure does not cause retrograde ejaculation.

Treatment details

  • The injections are performed in a single procedure.
  • The number of injections will depend on the size of the prostate gland.
  • It can be carried out through sedation, local or locoregional anesthesia (known as epidural) and on an outpatient basis, that is, without admission.
  • Both elderly patients, over 80 years old, and younger patients, under 50 years old, can be treated.
  • Does not affect sexual function.
  • After the intervention, most patients stop taking the medication.
